Abstract:
The black kite(Milvus migrans) is one of the most widely distributed raptors. In March 2024, a satellite tracker was attached on one black kite at the Nanjing Hongshan Forest Zoo to track and study its activity range and flight behavior. The satellite tracking results indicate that the activity range of the black kite is mainly in the Jiangsu, Shandong and Anhui region, with most of its activities occuring during the daytime. The amount of daytime flight is correlated with environmental temperature and rainfall, the direction and speed of daytime flight are correlated with wind direction and speed, and the altitude of daytime flight is correlated with air pressure. The black kite mainly prefers places with high vegetation coverage and low light pollution as the activity area. Rests and activities of the black kite are more frequent in forest areas than in habitats such as farmland, waterside, and grassland.
